If you’ve got a meaningless job then this is definitely not the man to hang out with!
The summer ended with a busy run of editorial commissions. One of the more interesting magazine portrait assignments in August was meeting up with David Graeber. The American anthropologist and writer of ‘Bullshit Jobs’. If you feel you’ve got a meaningless job then this is definitely not the man to hang out with!
The magazine portrait nearly didn’t happen.
Arriving at the LSE David was nowhere to be seen. Not at reception where we agreed to meet or answering his mobile phone. Humm… Luckily someone knew exactly where to find him and showed me the way up to his small office. Laden with books and sitting on his chair with his legs crossed in a staff pose. Looking surprised to see me. It made for a great setting. Sometimes the location is picture perfect, no need to look for a more interesting space. It would of been meaningless to try and photograph him in an alternative location!
