Being an event photographer is always great fun this time of year. Christmas began early commissioned by a high end commercial property agent to photograph their Christmas wreath making events across the south of England. Each group had exactly one hour to master the tricky task of decorating their own Xmas wreath from scratch.
I ventured to a number of locations photographing how it is done. The concentration was immense, and one hour absolutely flies past creating a wreath. I photographed a number of sessions to give the client options for social media and later website imagery.
I really enjoy working in these types of environments, photographing people having fun.
I’ve now photographed events regularly over the last 20 years, Christmas always being a special time. I really like catching those special moments, people dressed up in their Christmas jumpers, letting their hair down after a busy period. At Christmas people tend to let their hair down and have fun amongst their colleagues they normally don’t get to share free time with.
This particular client has hired me for several years now, which means that the office workers who have worked for some of the companies for multiple years recognise me from previous events, knowing that they can trust me to get a great photo of them.
Catching those special moments is something I’ve perfected, swiftly moving around the event, looking out for the most liveliest of groups participating on the games. This year the ‘high striker’ was very popular, office staff keen to show off their strength, or lack of it! This made for some great photographs especially when someone hit the lever hard enough and the puck hit the bell. Always getting a reaction and a cheer.
I tend to try and blend into the background capturing those moments without being intrusive. If I’m going to shoot a group then I’ll ask if they would like a nice team shot and then quickly position people in a better formation to make the photograph work. I’m always conscious that not everyone wants to be photographed, so I’m never offended if people are camera shy.
Please get in touch if you have any corporate events coming up and would like to commission me to photograph them.
Very best, Merry Christmas
