On a wet Autumn Sunday I was commissioned to head down to Guildhall Yard. Commissioned to photograph the Pearly Kings and Queens Society’s annual Harvest Festival in London.
Dressed in their best dark suits covered in hundreds of bright pearl buttons.
The 125-year old tradition makes for an interesting assignment. Pearly Kings and Queens from all generations wearing their Smother Suits covered in sparkly buttons. Coming together from every borough of London for the annual charity event.
I concentrated on emphasising in my photographs that the working class culture of the Pearlies is continuing into the next generation. The Pearly Kings and Queens are clearly going strong with 30 London families attending the parade with a service of thanksgiving at St Mary Le Bow church.
