I’m really delighted to have won the award for this years SJA British Sports News Picture with my photograph of Scotland’s Tartan Army football fans preparing for their Euros match against England whilst out in London’s West End. It was a crazy night, one I won’t forget, especially since I have won several awards for the photographs I took during the course of that night.
Currently, this particular photograph has won Silver Award at the Budapest Int Foto Awards, an Award of Excellence at NAPA World Photography Awards, Silver Award at the Tokyo Int Foto Awards.
Hopefully I’ll be commissioned to photograph more types of these situations.
I’m especially pleased to have won the British award as I was shortlisted alongside some amazing photographs taken by great photographers working in the Sport environment. I’m not a sport photographer and only cover the news/documentrary photography side on the periphery of these types of tournements. I do love sport and hopefully this will enable me to cover more types of these situations.
He’s since recovered and back with the Tartan Army!
Since the photograph has been featured in various publications the Scottish football fan holding his scarf growling down my lens has tracked me down. Until then, the last I had heard of him was when myself and another concerned member of the public called for a paramedic to get his gashed leg seen to. There was a lot of glass and dirty water within the fountain which he was rolling around in. Luckily the ambulance took him away to hospital where they carried out surgery on his leg, where he spent two futher days recovering in hospital. He’s now back fully recovered with the Tartan Army, preparing for the Qatar World Cup qulifications 2022! I’m open for commissions to join the fans!
