Recent editorial photography commission for The Daily Telegraph Saturday supplement photographing JJ Fox Cigar Merchants. London’s oldest cigar merchants.
Smoke fuelled editorial photography commission
My editorial photography brief required shots of the current owners and details of all the interesting cigar exhibits. The museum in the shop has many interesting historical exhibits enabling fabulous details. Including ledgers, cigars from the 1851 Great Exhibition, and seven royal warrants, Edward VIII’s humidor, and the chair Churchill would sit in while choosing cigars.
Owners Rob and Stuart Fox happily puffing away on cigars the shop soon filled with clouds of smoke. By the time we finished getting the shots my clothes reeked reminding me of what it was like to be in a smoke filled pub or restaurant fifteen years ago. Clothes and hair reeking of smoke for the following day. Even my camera bag smelt of cigar smoke for days after.
The article appeared in print as part of the Nation of Shopkeepers continuing feature and online.
