It’s not very often the opportunity comes round to meet the absolute pioneers of portrait photography. So it was a great privilege to meet David Bailey (for the second time in 20 years).
The first time I met David was at his retrospective ‘Archive 1’ in 1999. Exhibited at The Barbican. On that day there were a lot of photographers. All fighting for positions at the photocall for the launch of the exhibition.
Work by photographer David Bailey will feature on a giant electric billboard on Oxford Street as part of an art project
This time round I found David back stage after he had given a talk publicising his latest art project. Earlier he had shared anecdotes and answered questions on his illustrious career. I was lucky to find a quiet spot away from the hoards of photography enthusiasts. There we had an impromptu portrait shoot with the legend himself.
